Life as an internAs an Intern in this type of position, I was provided a lot of great opportunities. I was able to work closely with my bosses, other departments, and the guests in order to build a larger network. At a small hotel, job duties are intertwined so you get to learn from every department, including sales and marketing. The job perks are not monetary such as bonuses or trips, but you have the opportunity to network and learn about the industry. Additionally, because the management runs two hotels there is a diversity in the type of hotel knowledge you receive. One is an upper class motel and the other is a high class hotel. The pay is $10 per hour and, on occasion, you will receive tips.

Life as a student
I learned a lot during my short few months at The George. I learned mostly how to improve my customer service skills. The main thing to remember is the importance of how you are saying something, not so much what you are saying. People are easily influenced, and if you have to say no, but can offer an alternative, they are a lot more accepting. I have learned how to calm down angry guests, how to reward happy guests, and how to fix situations that did not go as planned. I also improved my email and phone skills. These two skills can easily be forgotten and misinterpreted, but with that being a main part of the job, I have gotten very good with the proper technique.
